On being green...
Jun. 25th, 2007 09:16 pmok, well I am far from being as green as I would like to be. However, for years I have recycled, reduced general electricity and water usage.
I used to can fruits and veggies I grew in my garden. I am afraid to do that here with the lead abatement. I'll wait til I move somewhere else to restart my garden.
I've always tried to drive more fuel efficient vehicles.
Right now, I can't recycle as much where I live because I do not have any space to store recyclables inside, and if I did it outside, it would attract ants, coons, cats and who knows what else.
I wash out baggies and reuse them (except for those in which I have frozen raw meat), lights are out, laundry loads are large and I miss my laundry line at my other house. :-)
The water heater is on a timer.
Last summer were 3 a/c's in the house, now down to 2 (one up, one down) with efficient use of the fan to circulate air upstairs.
I plan my road trips to be as inclusive as possible of errands. I wish I could ride my bike to work, but I am 20 miles away from one job (and I would have to bike through "less desirable" areas) and 45 plus miles away from where I work as a medic, not to mention I would have to cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge....lol.
I continue to look for ways to make some improvements/reductions in the usage of energy and resources...all my efforts are small, but together with others who are doing the same, we can make a larger impact.
