It's been one year since Katrina. So much has changed for New Orleans and it's people...so much will never be the same again. In spite of this, the spirit of the city and it's people struggle to move on and rebuilt...it was so very evident during Mardi Gras earlier this year.

Would I do want to go through it again? Anyone in their right mind would say no, but in hind sight, there is something I would have done differently. And that would have been not to leave on that Wednesday, but to stay a few more days and help. I have never really resolved the feeling of abandoning those new friends I left behind. Yes, I know, I had a family and job here...but my family would have more than understood. And my job, well, since I was suspended for two more weeks on my return, the time could have been put to good use.

So to all of you...to Kim, Luke, Jacob, Jeanne and the others, I think of you often. I pray that you are recovering and thriving whether you chose to stay or needed to leave. For those who left and will be returning because the spirit of the City calls to them...please take a piece of my heart with you.
