SCA Meme...
Jun. 19th, 2007 08:01 pmSCA meme:
1. How and when did first find out about the SCA? I wish I could remember who, but someone told me about the SCA because they knew of my interest in Elizabethan history. I then looked it up online.
2. What made you wanna come play? Again, my interest in Elizabethan history, and the dream of dressing in Elizabethan Garb...which I don't do due to the expense and skill level required in sewing.
3. Did you ever take sewing/cooking/archery/(other things that are found within the SCA) classes in school? Does Home Ec in Junior High count? Also I did attend some summer camps in which I was active in archery and equine activities.
4. Why do you play now? Because when it's "ON" it's "ON"...there are a number of great people to know and learn from...those who also strive for the "dream" and perpetuate their enthusiasm to others.
5. Do you make your own garb? Yes, now I do, although if I had the money I would buy more dresses from Historic Enterprises.
barondietrichbought me one last year and it fits so well. I love it! However, I have a pattern which is my own "version" of a 14-15th century dress which can be used as an over or undergown. If it wasn't for the darn sleeves I could whip one out in a day.
6. Do you fight (heavy/rapier)? No, but there are times I wish I did.
7. Have you ever bartered with anyone? Yes, I have casted tokens for both
catelinelb for embroidery on garb and with someone else who made me a lovely cherry sewing box in return.
8. What was your first event? Local was our Yule party; Kingdom level was...hmmm, don't rightly know, but I do recall a Crown Tourney in which Balfar and Luna won....again. It was also my first feast, and I recall the ovens breaking and the staff scrambling the best they could.
9. Describe your first garb. LOL...cotton, short sleeved chemise, a navy "satin" type material for my skirt and a brocade bodice that pushed UP the ta-tas!
10. Do any of the friends you had before the SCA now play also? No...I've tried to draw in a few but to no avail. I think a couple of my male friends would enjoy heavy weapons fighting.
11. What were some of your favorite books/stories as a kid? wow, I read a lot, but I can't recall what I read!! I do remember Judy Blume however.
12. Have you registered a name? Yes, Valentina Barrow. I add the 's' after the fact.
13. Have you registered Arms? They are pending...Lozengy Argent and Vert on a chief indented purpure, three roses Or barbed Vert, seeded gules. They have made it thru Kingdom.
14. What is you favorite "No Sh*t, there I was" story? Believe it or not, I don't have one.
15. What A&S stuff are/could you be interested in? I have dabbled in embroidery, viking wire weaving, learning the recorder, pewter casting, cordial making, illumination...I love trying new things. But I tend to like immediate results and am not patient enough to develop a high level of expertise. Plus I am not a talented 'artiste' in any way, shape or form which is frustrating...lol.
